After all the preconception that Ozrics is 'drug' music is fairly widespread. I am lost be the comments of illegality, I guess you mean has a social stigma attached largely through mass misunderstanding and prohibition. 'It's a bit too blissed out for my taste" the problem being how can any of us choose a single track to represent the huge and varied body of works? We cannot, so I think people will organically stumble and be introduced. Many people who are talented musicians I know say things like. in my opinion a true one off and a privilege to hear. When it comes to Ozrics it just brings many skilled elements which sum to a an even greater whole. Not always used for noble pursuits I hasten to add. Ego does not always have to be a bad thing, it can be a driving force and strong belief in ability or even just intent and focus at all costs is a powerful force. I know of no other band that pushes all my 'in awe' buttons. I think Ozrics are often introduced by other fans. I think ones own personality has a bearing on musical choice, exposure to Ozrics will be minimal online as via pretty much another medium. sometimes all it takes is a little space to see or hear the wonder that is all around. so somewhere amidst the insanity of public media, there is restoration of natural order. and to be harsh this could be seen as a type of ego. ed has to some degree been shy in the public eye. how ozrics are marketed or have been in the past. in interview he has been inspired by neil young for this reason. with recognition, people recognize joe satriani as a technical wizard, and he has spent his carear trying to create emotional music. When they played eternal wheel in london last year, it wasn't the ozricness that impressed, more the humanness. but the defining moments definatly transcend this. it is interesting because in the past i always associated ozric music with 'space.' or 'weirdness.' and many other descriptions. but when some is a fan of an artist's work.say in this case the ed or the ozrics, it is natural to feel the need to justify their art. but one of my understandings is it like a defense mechanism of the mind.how does this tie in with the top seeder? well artists are known to have delicate ego's,perhaps this allows them to take risks in expressing themselves i'm not sure. perhaps like god or love the definition of ego may differ from person to person. That's why we should all celebrate the fact the Ozrics are still recording & still playing live.Įd & the band will never get the recognition they deserve from a wider audience because like i said the vast majority of people will never hear them.Instead Ed & the band will be treated like Psychedellic Space Rock royalty by their own fans & to be honest i'm sure thats all they care about anyway.LONG LIVE THE OZRICS!!! D D D The teenage girls arnt interested in instrumental music, they want songs sung by a good looking singer so they can dream that the singer is actually singing to them! Bands like The Ozric Tentacles are a dying breed especially with the amount of digital technology around today, you can virtually form a band on your own & program a computer to play all the instruments. The youth of today arnt interested in Space Rock or any rock for that matter. In England all the young white lads think they're black & like all that Gangster Crap-sorry Rap music. They carnt be bothered to learn to play a guitar or bass or drums because they are too busy playing Xbox or PS3 for 16 hours a day. Their music can take you to places that tunes with vocals carnt do. The Ozrics sound/music is like nothing else around today & has stayed more or less the same since 1985. Eds playing is as good-if not better than all these Heavy Metal Axe heroes doing the rounds today. Like all the best 'cult' bands they change for no one but influence many to go on & form their own bands. The only way the Ozrics will be heard by the masses is in the very unlikely event of one of their tunes getting high in the pop charts or maybe a few tracks featuring heavily in a Blockbuster Hollywood film (you never know!). Space Rock is very much a 'cult' music genre-a 'sub genre' of many other 'sub-genres'. The first was ''Ozric Tentacles.Rock musics best kept secret'' the second was ''Ed Wynne. The greatest guitar player you've never heard of''. Are we talking about The Cardiacs of 'Is This The Life' fame from the 80s? That was a great tune, one of John Peels fave bands,i used to come across them when i was playing back the John Peel Show i used to record on cassette in the mid 80s.Īs regards to Ed/Ozrics.When i was researching the band at the start of the year in my eagerness to catch up with what i'd missed since 1985,i came a cross a couple of really interesting statements.
